In October 2004, four guys with different musical backgrounds formed a live band called PREMACY.
All the members in the band had some sort of connection to each other, either from earlier bands or from various musical environments, but none of them had the same starting point when it came down to musical preferences.
Premacy came to life when family related Thomas and Stian got in contact with each other after many years. Thomas and Stian played together in several bands during the youth.
Thomas was without a band, and had already decided to do something together with another musical associate, Torkil, whom he knew from the time with the band Evelyn. The idea of merging the different styles that the guys represented was born, Thomas’ “nu metal” style, Torkil’s melancholic style and Stian’s “prog rock” style.
The bassist Bjørn Arve, which both Thomas and Torkil had played with in Evelyn, became the fourth part of Premacy.
There was Skepticism within the band about not being able to find a common musical expression. Stian wanted musical complexity, but Thomas and Torkil wanted a more minimalistic expression. Now the hunt for a common music style had started.
The original line-up was Thomas Dahl - Vocal, Stian Dahl - Guitar, Torkil Riiser - Drums, Bjørn Arve Gunnes - Bass.
The band got of to a rocky start in autumn 2004, with two burglaries on the rehearsal facility, were important equipment were stolen. The musical evolvement decreased and the frustration increased, but the music that was already made became the main motive to continue. The early scepticism around the music was gradually washed away because the band showed great capability of cooperation on their musical expression.
Most of the songs are sculptured by Stian at his home studio and then adjusted and fine tuned by the band, so that everyone is able to affect the result. The lyrics are determined by situations and are written by Thomas and Stian, together or separately.
In April 2005, the band went in studio to record their first demo, ”Fragile Lives”, containing four songs ("Fragile Life"/"Anger Management"/"Reality, My Dream"/"Ending Days").
These songs are available for download at their website, www.premacy.no.
Several radio stations started playing their music, and the feedback was great. The inspiration to continue increased.
Premacy got more concerts and administration, and a conflict of interest resulted in Bjørn Arve leaving the band because he didn’t have the extra time to follow up the many activities the band required. Bjørn Arve left Premacy after the concert at “Skuret” June 25th.
The band had already a huge focus on booking. But without a bass player, it was hard to play live. Premacy had to announce for a replacement for Bjørn Arve. There were many interested musicians, but none of which had the qualities the band wanted. So to be able to play the already booked concerts, the band chose to make a temporary deal with Kai Håkon Wilhelmsen until they found a permanent solution for the problem. Kai played two concerts summer 2005 before Mats Magnem showed up via friends of the band.
Mats was originally a guitarist and had played with a variety of local bands, but it was in his latest band, Evident, that he started playing the bass.

The second band line-up became Thomas Dahl - Vocal, Stian Dahl - Guitar, Torkil Riiser - Drums, Mats Magnem - Bass.
The band increased the booking intensity and marketing, which resulted in support acts for Norwegian Wig Wam. Premacy went in studio again to record a new demo of four songs from the new material, but decided to not publish it because they aimed for recording a debut record.
The following period became turbulent for the band, since the guys had different goals for the band. But they all agreed to do a self-arranged concert at the highly distinguished John Dee in Oslo, and it was a success. The guys got to play at lot of distinguished venues in Norway, like John Dee in Oslo, Tribute in Sandnes, Garage in Bergen and Oslo, and Betong in Oslo. The preliminary height is the support act for American Staind in front of a sold out Rockefeller March 2006.
The current line up is: Simen Rafoss - Vocal, Stian Dahl - Guitar, Torkil Riiser - Drums, Mats Magnem - Bass.
